Shalane is a fellow photographer with a gorgeous studio in Pretoria, we met a few years ago when we both exhibited at a wedding expo. Shalane is a kind hearted, gentle woman of God who is a bit of a perfectionist with a very good eye for detail – you can see this in her work and it was just as evident on their wedding day. These two have been wanting to get married for such a long while – but life just kept on happening… and the budget was always the biggest obstacle… but this year it all finally happened – everything just landed in place and these two could say the I Do’s at Morgenzon a gorgeous Cape Dutch style venue that reminds me of the Winelands in Stellenbosch – such a gorgeous venue. The day before these two tied the knot was the coldest day of our winter… and these two planned their ceremony outside… and they had a beautiful day… a few things during the preparations did not go as planned… and Shalane had to walk down the isle a little later than planned, but nothing on earth could smother Shalane’s excitement for her wedding day. Herewith their beautiful story:
HOW DID YOU GUYS MEET?
We met in a church sell group in 2009. Shortly after that myself and 2 friends went on a girls trip to Umhlanga where Deon and them happened to also be on holiday and our love story began.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR ENGAGEMENT:
December 2014 we went to Balito with family. On Chrsitmas day myself and Deon’s sister cooked a lovely Christmas meal. We all sat down to eat but before that we each had a Christmas cracker to pull. Out fell a little black box… and in my heart I just knew this was it. Deon went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It took me a while to answer as I could not keep the tears of joy from flowing.
WHAT WAS THE MOST SPECIAL MOMENT ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?
I have two – I remember standing hand in hand looking Deon in the eyes and saying my vows. For that moment it was as if we were standing alone, just me and him with tears running down our cheeks… The second one was having my brother walk me down the isle. Our dad passed away almost 16 years ago.
ANY SUGGESTIONS / ADVICE FOR OTHER BRIDES?
Remember this is YOUR big day. Invite who you want to be there to celebrate in the joy of your marriage, and do what you feel is right for you as a couple. It is impossible to please everyone. Most of all, enjoy every moment, it passes by so quickly.
Shalane told me about her cake in a jar before the wedding… I had no idea what she was on about… and then I saw their cake and I just fell in love with this idea! If you don’t feel like eating your cake you can take it home! Such a nice idea! Just a pity I did not take one with me… it looked and smelled so yummy….
